SLOW Food spearheads several campaigns to raise community and international awareness of food issues.

In 2001 a campaign to protect cheese made from raw milk was presented at Cheese. The manifesto in defence of raw milk cheese was signed by more than 20,000 people and restored confidence and dignity to scores of international cheese producers. In 2004 Claudio Martini, president of the Italian region of Tuscany, and researcher, philosopher and Slow Food international vice-president Vandana Shiva presented a manifesto on the future of food at the Social Forum in Mumbai, India. Drafted by a commission that included Slow Food, this appeal to international public officials was delivered to the World Trade Organisation in Cancun, Mexico.

Today Slow Food is committed to good, clean and fair food as defined in the Slow Food manifesto for quality.

The manifesto on the future of seeds was presented in 2006. A commission on the future of food and agriculture, created by the Italian region of Tuscany and Vandana Shiva, presented in 2008 a manifesto on climate change and the future of food security.
